Water resources, water quality and climate change

Under this name, a regular session was held on March 3, 2021 in the framework of the Erasmus + Jean Monnet Project ” The Best European Practices for the «Water Security» Platform to Achieve the Goals of Sustainable Development ” 597938-EPP-1-2018-1-EN-EPPJMO-MODULE, implemented at the Department of Ecology of Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University.

The topic was presented by the responsible executor of the Project, Associate Professor of Ecology, Candidate of Geological Sciences Viktor Smirnov.

Participants of the Interdisciplinary European Studies had the opportunity to discuss the following key issues: water resource potential of the hydrosphere; distribution of water resources in the world and Ukraine; factors of water composition formation; properties of natural waters; general requirements for drinking water quality in the world and in Ukraine; drinking water and human health; adaptation to climate change.

Special interest to the participants of the Interdisciplinary European Studies on Water Safety was the issue of drinking water quality, which depends on water treatment technologies and the state of water supply. Aspects of water quality standards in Ukraine and other countries, the dangers of chlorination of water, the consequences of climate change were discussed.

For the World Water Day, which is celebrated on March 22, an essay contest on “The value of water in my life” was announced. The Project team cordially invites all interested parties to join the competition, the terms of which will be announced separately on our Facebook page.
